We are set to go live with a new database in the coming months. Our current database does allow for us to have a search feature on our website that allows someone to look up a record and see certain information. Our new database will have this feature as well, but with the possibility of navigating between linked records of related individuals. I’m curious if any of you currently have such a feature and if you’ve considered any privacy issues or permissions related to this feature. We have a few attorneys considering the matter, but I wanted to crowd-source from any of you that have already tread this path!
        Thank you!

I don’t think ours is quite so sophisticated, but our database links to our Esri maps (which is what people see when they search our database). You can search for graves and it will open a separate box which contains information about the deceased – Name, DOB, DOD, DOI, Hebrew name, spouse, parents, photo of grave marker. Although it does show the name of the spouse, we don’t link to other records so no information can be seen about the spouse (except the name). We don’t allow information on the owners of unoccupied graves (including the names) to be shown. An unoccupied grave only shows as available for sale, owned or unusable. We certainly would remove (or make non-public) if we had a family request it, but most are happy that we’ve done it. It also helps during our flag placing events for veterans as there’s a filter to show only veteran graves.

                  Kathy,
We have purchased a database through OpusXenta. We looked into developing a custom database, but opted for a product that could be customized some for our purposes, but is designed for cemeteries.
Happy to talk through what we learned in the RFP and selection process.
This topic is also going to be part of the webinar and online conference sessions we’re planning for this spring.
                  David

I’d be curious to learn how you select Opus Xenta and your process. Please email me kparven@beth-israel.org.

                  Thank you!

We are looking for a vendor. We currently use a very old ESF Marks data base. I have spoken with OpusXenta and Sims. What pushed you to OpusXenta? You can respond to me at lcaulfield@bethyeshurun.org .
